Venezuela Protests: Three people were shot dead in Venezuela during protests in separate incidents, on Wednesday, March 12. Reason for these protests include scarcity of basic items, rising unemployment, inflation, and the government is also accused of supporting civilian thugs who attack protesters. Two men were killed in the Isabelica region one, near his home, however it is not known whether or not he was participating in the protests and the other was shot while painting the front of his house. National Guard Capt. Ramzor Ernesto Bracho was also killed in a shooting in Valenca. The US is unsure whether or not to get involved, given Venezuela’s fragile state.South Africa on the other hand is willing to try and help them, as they would like to send foreign ministers in April to Venezuela to resolve the conflict, however Venezuela does not want to speak with the government until it releases jailed protesters.
ReplyDeleteGaza- Israel: On Wednesday, March 12, sixty rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip to Southern Israel in the most intense barrage since 2012. Israel struck back on Wednesday night, hitting two locations with artillery fire. No Injuries were reported. A militant Palestinian group, Islamic Jihad, took responsibility for the rockets and said they were only fired in response to an Israeli airstrike on Tuesday. Citizens living both in Gaza and southern Israel are constantly on edge, listening for the red-alert sirens. Residents of south Israel have been advised to stay near bomb shelters, after Israel closed a commercial crossing where Gaza imports and exports goods. Situations like these are so normal for those living in the area that they have even mistaken thunder for bombs during bad storms.
ReplyDeleteAfghanistan: President Karzai of Afghanistan says that Afghanistans troops can now protect Afghanistan without the help of foreign troops (Afghan troops are currently protecting 93%). This after attacks on February 23 left 21 members of the Afghan army dead and several others injured. The Bilateral Security Agreement, if signed would allow some US special forces troops to stay in Afghanistan to hunt down Al Qaeda, and train and mentor Afghan troops. Karzai refuses to sign this agreement but all the presidential candidates running for the April 5 elections say they would be willing to sign it, and Karzai can not run for another term. Karzai believes that the US could bring peace to Afghanistan if it left and went to a countries that supported terrorism, like Pakistan.
